We have now been running folk high school in Mallorca since 2017, with around 4-5 courses a year. We open the season in April and close it in October. We do not run folk high school down there during the summer months, as the weather is simply too hot for us.

In Mallorca we have our wonderful house cook Ulla Guasp Clausen, who lives part-time on Mallorca and who has come to know the local cuisine through her in-laws. So we are spoiled with all kinds of Mallorcan specialities.

It varies a little who we meet in Mallorca. It could be restaurateur Helle Alexandersen, winegrower Søren Svenningsen, gallery owners Jakob and Patricia Asbæk and many of the other fascinating Danes we have come to know in Mallorca. We hope you enjoy exploring our programme.

This is how you stay at Mallorca Folk High School

The setting for our folk high school week is our lovely finca, the school's main building. Finca is the Spanish word for a large farm. As no more than 16 participants can stay here, we also have the house Son Pelai, which can accommodate 10-12 participants. Son Pelai is 3 km from the finca. Everyone staying at Son Pelai will be driven to and from the activities in the school's minibus. Some choose to walk or cycle. For the same reason, we group many of the activities into modules and then schedule a longer siesta before our late afternoon/evening module begins. The price of staying at Son Pelai is considerably lower than the price of staying at the finca.

A little about the accommodation: The finca dates from 1828 but has been thoroughly and carefully restored, so you still experience the classic farm with its water pump and the old olive oil press. The finca is set in scenic surroundings at the foot of the Tramuntana mountain range. It is truly quiet and peaceful here; the only thing you hear is the chirping of the birds and the bells on the sheep. It is 3.5 kilometres to the nearest town, Lloseta, which has 5,000 inhabitants. The farm is built on a lovely 80-hectare plot with terraces and a pool, where the early risers can take a dip. It is surrounded by olive groves, almond and fig trees, and in season you can pick both oranges and lemons straight from the trees. Our eggs come partly from the farm's hens.

The finca is divided into 5 apartments with two double rooms in each apartment. A couple of the rooms are an extended loft with their own bathroom. In 4 of the apartments there is a bath and toilet attached to each double room. In the fifth apartment there are two rooms that share a bath/toilet. A reduction in price is given for a shared bathroom. Otherwise the rooms are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis'

Our other house, Son Pelai, is also a large old Spanish country estate, located about a 6-minute drive in the school's bus from the folk high school's main building. You can also cycle; it takes about 13 minutes. Son Pelai is over 700 square metres and has a 10,000-square-metre garden with a lovely large swimming pool and terrace.

At Son Pelai we have 7 rooms; 3-4 single rooms and 4 double rooms. The rooms are quite different, as the place's original style has been preserved – so it does not end up looking like a hotel. Because it isn't one. Some of the rooms have bathrooms, which costs a little more; some have to share a bathroom. The rooms are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
