Knitting on Mallorca with Helga Jóna - with the option of walking
Knitting on Mallorca - with the option of walking:
Can we be inspired to knit on Mallorca? Yes, we can. The food, the scents, the nature with its beautiful mountains, the almond trees and the old gnarled olive trees. Not to mention the blue colours of the Mediterranean, the sound of the birds and the sheep's bells in the distance – it can all be knitted.
Together with knitwear designer and superb teacher Helga Jóna, we will try out different techniques, combine colours and qualities, and perhaps an idea will pop into your head that you can bring to life on the needles afterwards?
The loveliest place
Our folk high school lies in one of the most beautiful places on Mallorca. Right up against the Tramuntana mountains. We are so far out in the countryside that there are no tourists, no traffic, only sounds from the birds in the area's many trees, the sheep's bells and their bleating. The folk high school is an old farm from 1828 that has been carefully restored, so it has retained the old, authentic farming atmosphere while the rooms are beautifully and modernly furnished. It is a gem of a place, and everyone who has visited us agrees. It is Mallorca at its very best.
Knitting and walking - a lovely combination
We have had a number of requests to run another knitting course at our popular folk high school on Mallorca, and preferably with a little more opportunity for walking. So we are therefore offering the option of two walks on this course. This time it will be with knitwear designer Helga Jóna.
One of the walks will be between Deia and Sóller. An incredibly beautiful route of about 10-11 km, where we have views of the Mediterranean in several places. We walk through olive groves and pine forests. There is quite a bit of cooling shade. And along the way there is the chance to stop at a café with an utterly incredible view over the Sóller valley. Tarts and coffee can be bought here.
If you do not feel like it, or cannot take part in this walk, you can stay at the folk high school and take part in an extra workshop with Helga Jóna.
On one of the other course days we walk straight from the folk high school up to the Tosalls Verdes refuge, which lies about a 2-hour walk from our folk high school. This walk goes, among other things, through a beautiful gorge, and is about 12 km in total and lasts 4 hours in all + breaks. If you stay home at the folk high school this day, there is your own knitting time by the pool or somewhere else at the folk high school.
Requirements for the walking fitness
It is of course different to walk in the mountains on Mallorca than to walk in a forest in Denmark. There are many stones on Mallorca, and there are also elevation metres to take into account - we climb between 100-300 metres of elevation on these walks.
You must be in ordinary good shape to be able to join, and you must have no problems walking the stated km, as we cannot come and collect anyone by car etc. That is to say, no known walking difficulties, lung problems, heart problems or the like. (We write this both for the sake of your own health and for the sake of the rest of the group.)
The knitting level
You do not need to be a super-knitter to take part, but as a minimum you must be able to cast on, knit and purl, and increase and decrease - and have a great desire to geek out and learn more.
We will of course knit "like crazy" on this folk high school knitting trip, and besides knitting and walking, the week will also be much enhanced with folk high school singing, cultural experiences, nature experiences and Mallorcan food.

What our guests say
