We are always on the lookout for exciting course leaders who can lead a folk high school course and who have knowledge of a country or topic of broad interest. It is always a plus if you also know the Danish Folk High School Songbook and can sing/possibly also play the piano. And if you can also lead the morning gymnastics/do yoga or mindfulness, that is a perfect combination for us. The same applies to new assistants. Here too it is always a huge plus if you can sing/play an instrument.

About Annas Højskole - Who is Anna?

The principal and founder Anna Katrin Nørgaard has given her name to Annas Højskole. In addition to being your recurring host on many of the courses, she is also a journalist and a 3rd-generation folk high school principal. She started the school, which is a private company and therefore not supported by state funds, on Mallorca in 2017 out of her great interest in travelling and meeting other people and cultures in the folk high school way. She has now thrown herself into new adventures in Scotland, Andalusia, Portugal, Sicily, Vietnam, Thy, and on Læsø, where together with her husband and a couple of friends she has invested in a large and lovely B&B that provides the setting for the courses on the pearl of the Kattegat, as Læsø is also known.

Grew up at a Grundtvigian folk high school

The idea of sharing her knowledge and love of places far from Denmark through lectures, discussions, excursions, community and folk high school songs came completely naturally to Anna Katrin. She herself grew up at a folk high school, as she was born into a folk high school lineage.

Her grandparents, who were teachers at Ryslinge Højskole, started their own folk high school, Nørgaards Højskole, in 1955 in Hadsten, where her father later became principal and teacher. Today Nørgaards Højskole is located in Bjerringbro. Anna Katrin Nørgaard has thus absorbed the folk high school idea and spirit with her mother's milk and has worked on several folk high school courses in, among other places, Greenland.

Journalist and lecturer

She has also been a diligent lecturer around the country and a choir singer, and can lead the singing of the songs in the Danish Folk High School Songbook. As a journalist, Anna Katrin has worked mostly with television, including 13 years at DR, and has been a producer and documentary maker for both DR documentary and TV2. In that connection she has made programmes from countries and continents all over the world.

At Annas Højskole we thus give participants an experience of the more authentic and unknown. We give our participants an insight into and understanding of the area's culture, history and present-day social conditions, while holding on to the folk high school's ideas about community, communal singing, lectures and gymnastics. So that there are calories for both body and soul.

“My goal is to give my participants a different experience of inspiring destinations. We don't so much visit places and things; instead we go for the interesting stories. We visit factories, prisons, the rich man's villa, and talk to the people there. When we are abroad, we visit, as far as possible, Danes living in the country in question. Because they know our way of thinking and know well where the interesting stories lie”.
