Mallorca from the inside
On the popular course "Mallorca from the inside", you experience the island in an authentic and different way, getting behind the mass tourism and meeting passionate locals who are devoted to the authentic Mallorca and to sharing this beautiful island in the Mediterranean. The course leader is Nanna Grunwald.
Our folk high school is beautifully located out in the countryside in the middle of nature with the Tramuntana mountains at its back. There is plenty of room for community and time for yourself. There is a pool area where we do morning exercises, and a lounge where we hold talks and so on. But the most important thing is the nature and the magical surroundings. On one of the days we walk out of the folk high school's gate and turn left to reach route 221 - the largest walking route on Mallorca. The great majority can manage this lovely walk.

Ulla, our house cook, makes sure we get to know the Mallorcan kitchen from the very inside. She cooks food so good the angels sing, and our participants are very enthusiastic. Ulla lives partly on Mallorca, and loves to tell about the food and traditions on this beautiful island.
We will visit Jacob and Patricia Asbæk's gallery CCA near Andratx, where we get the story of the place, look at the art, meet artists and talk with Jakob Asbæk alone (he is usually there) or also with Patricia, if she is there.
There will also be the chance to experience Jørn Utzon's beautiful house Can Lis, which is a truly remarkable house, and which is rarely open to the public. As a prelude to the visit we dive into the history of the Danish architect and his relationship with Mallorca. After the visit to the house there will be the chance to swim in the small, cosy harbour town of Portopetro, which has a lovely beach.
On one day we make our way past our friend, the Danish winegrower Søren Svenningsen, who in his own opinion and view has created the world's best wine - at his high-tech vineyard, which lies 20 minutes from the folk high school. After the tour, where we hear about the art of making wine, and about the conditions on Mallorca for wine and winegrowers, we taste 7 different wines and enjoy a lovely tapas lunch.
In the Sóller area we will go to the market, we will visit Mallorca's most beautiful town Fornalutx, which lies nearby, and we will visit a Danish nature guide, Mireille, who will tell about what grows and thrives in the nature on Mallorca. We will taste, smell and use our senses. We also see the place she has bought in the middle of nature, and which she is doing up.
As written earlier, we stay far out in the countryside by the Tramuntana mountains. Our nearest small town is Lloseta, which is free of tourists. On the other hand there is plenty of local life in the squares and cafés, where life is very much lived.
We have run Mallorca from the inside with great success since 2017.

- 10.00 Departure towards Can Lis - Jørn Utzon's fantastic villa, which he designed and had built in 1972, when the family moved to Mallorca. We drive towards Porto Petro, which lies on the east coast.
- After the visit there is time on your own for lunch and relaxation - possibly a swim - in the small, charming harbour town of Porto Petro.
- 15.30 Departure from Portopetro towards the folk high school.
- 18.45 Departure from Son Pelai.
- 19.00 Shared dinner at the folk high school.
- 20.00 From pig feasts to a cool holiday island. (Talk about Danes' relationship with the holiday destination Mallorca).
- 21.30 Departure to Son Pelai - our other finca.
Saturday 12 September 2026
- 8.00 Morning song + breakfast + packed lunches and water.
- 9.00 Departure towards Sóller.
- 10.00 - 12.00 Here we experience a large outdoor market in Sóller. After the market we meet the Danish nature guide, Mireille, to walk with her through nature to her olive grove, Can Sart. We hear about Mallorca's nature along the way and taste and smell and use our senses. (A good closed shoe/walking shoe/walking boot is a must, as we walk on stones and small stony paths). Those of you who find it hard to walk up to Mireille's take a taxi.
- We eat our packed lunches at Mireille's, and hear about her Mallorca adventure.
- We walk on to Fornalutx, a beautiful and cosy little town, which is repeatedly voted Mallorca's most beautiful. Here you can relax until the bus comes to collect us.
- 17.00 We drive back to the folk high school.
- 19.15 Pick-up at Son Pelai.
- 19.30 Shared dinner at the folk high school.
- 20.15 Talk about the painter Joan Miró, who lived many years on Mallorca.
- 22.00 Departure to Son Pelai.
Sunday 13 September 2026
- 08.30 Breakfast + packed lunches.
- 09.30 The bus collects us and drives us to Fundació Miró, Mallorca.
- 14.00 Return journey by bus.
- 16.45 Pick-up at Son Pelai.
- 17.00 Ulla gives a talk about Mallorca's cuisine.
- 18.30 'Pa amb oli' presented by Ulla.
- Relaxing and folk high school songs.

Monday 14 September 2026
- 9.00 - 10.00 Breakfast.
- Day on your own: The chance to be driven to the nearby station in Lloseta, where you can go to Palma, Inca, Sóller, Port de Sóller - or wherever you feel like going.
There is also the chance to take a wonderful walk of about 12 km in total to the Refuge Tossals Verds. You are of course also welcome to stay at the folk high school and read a good book by the pool.
All meals are at your own expense - also if you stay at the finca.
We can give tips on good places to eat.

- 10.30 We set off towards the Danish winegrower and passionate spirit Søren Svenningsen's vineyard, BiniVista, which lies a 20-minute drive from us. Søren Svenningsen has created a high-tech vineyard, where we are shown round and taste 7 different wines and enjoy a lovely tapas lunch.
- 14.00 Return journey to the folk high school.
- Siesta and relaxation by the pool.
- 18.15 Pick-up at Son Pelai.
- 18.30 Dinner at the folk high school.
- Song evening: We enjoy selected songs from the Folk High School Songbook and hear a little about the history behind some of the songs.

- 9.00 Breakfast + we make packed lunches.
- 10.00 Departure towards Andratx. We will visit the Asbæk family's art centre, CCA Andratx. Here we are shown round the current exhibition, and visit the artists who are part of the "Artist in Residence" programme - an initiative created by Patricia Asbæk and a professional springboard for a whole range of artists.
- We eat packed lunches in the atrium courtyard or behind the museum. You can buy cake and coffee in the café.
- 15.00 Departure from CCA.
- Siesta and relaxation by the pool.
- 18.00 Pick-up at Son Pelai.
- 18.15 We all meet to get the party table ready, and then you will learn to make a genuine Mallorcan welcome drink
- 19.00 Farewell dinner with Paella, singing and good cheer at the folk high school.

Meet your instructors
Nanna Grunwald
Nanna is your course leader. For several years she has taken part in Annas Højskole's trips - particularly on Mallorca, in Vietnam and on Læsø, so she is well steeped in the folk high school spirit.
In her day-to-day work Nanna is a self-employed graphic designer, teacher and copywriter, and
has, among much else, designed books about food, culture and architecture.
Nanna knows the Folk High School Songbook well, so it is of course she who leads the communal singing. In addition, Nanna also runs the morning exercises and gives several talks.
Ulla Guasp Clausen
Our passionate house cook and Mallorca guide Ulla Guasp Clausen will guide and inspire with good local recipes, delicious food, culture and traditions.
Ulla has a long and insightful relationship with Mallorca. She has homes both in Palma and Denmark. Her past as a self-employed figure in the restaurant industry and as a creative concept developer is unmistakable. Her greatest wish is to be able to contribute to understanding and insight into the love the Mallorcans have for their culture, nature and produce.
Ulla's motto is: I walk slowly, because my life goes too fast.
Fay Mogensen
Fay has been an assistant at Annas Højskole since 2021, and has taken part in numerous courses on Læsø, in Thy and on Mallorca.
Fay's role on the course is especially of a practical nature, and to make sure the whole week goes well.
Fay comes from a background in sales and customer care.
