21. september 2026 – 28. september 2026 Mallorca Folk High School
Mallorca's culture, food and walking/cycling
About the course
Good experiences give a feeling of being alive. So if you dream of seeing Mallorca in a new way, this trip is for you.
On this course we will experience Mallorca's diversity and beauty. We have listened to previous participants, and in addition to walking and cookery school, we now also offer cycling. There will be three walks in the Serra de Tramuntana, an impressive mountain range with lush green valleys and breathtaking views. Four cycle trips out into the beautiful landscape – both the flat trips and those up into the heights that put a little more sweat on your brow. Authentic traditional local food experiences and cookery school; it is all about the quality of the produce, simplicity and pleasure for your taste buds. We will meet Danish entrepreneurs and enthusiasts, and of course there will be time for reflection, inspiration and a joy for life in the company of others – including at our beautiful houses, where the folk high school is based.
You will experience and be part of all this together with your three course leaders, namely Ulla Guasp Clausen, Anna Katrin Nørgaard and Niels Christensen.
It is entirely up to you whether you choose to cycle or walk. So you can easily choose to join some of the walks and the cookery school, even if you have rented a bike. You can also share a bike between several people if you wish.
Ulla is our passionate house cook and Mallorca guide. She will guide and inspire with good local recipes, delicious food, culture and traditions. Ulla has a long and insightful relationship with Mallorca. She has homes in both Palma and Denmark. Her past as a self-employed person in the restaurant industry and as a creative concept developer is unmistakable. Her greatest wish is to be able to contribute to an understanding and insight into the love Mallorcans have for their culture, nature and produce.
Anna Katrin Nørgaard, who is the principal of Annas Højskole, has completely lost her heart to the beautiful Mediterranean island and has now travelled to Mallorca for over 20 years and worked there for the last 9 years. It is especially Mallorca's beautiful towns and nature that Anna has fallen in love with.
Niels' great passion is cycling, and he has been to Mallorca more than 20 times. He is the guide on our cycle trips, which offer good exercise, fantastic views and pleasant company. He makes sure the cycle trips are arranged so that everyone can take part.
Together the three of them know a great deal about the culture and nature of the island and gladly share their knowledge and enthusiasm for this Mediterranean pearl.
Skilled in Spanish cooking
Ulla loves to explore the island's many food markets, fishmongers, tasting her way through the greengrocer's exotic fruits and vegetables in Lloseta. Ulla will give talks about Spanish/Mallorcan cuisine and its ingredients and of course the dish of the day, which is a typical dish on the island. The participants are then divided into 5-6 groups and go out to work in the folk high school's kitchens.
We stay in our two beautiful authentic houses: the Finca, which is the main house, and Son Pelai, located about 3 km away. (read more about accommodation here). At the finca there are 5-6 smaller kitchens in the apartments where participants stay, which we use for our cooking and where the groups work. We form new groups after the first cookery school day.
The Dry Stone Route - GR221
The 3 walks on "Mallorca's culture, walking and food" are of different lengths and difficulty levels. They typically last 4-6 hours including all breaks and are between 10 and 16 km.
We will of course set out on the most famous and spectacular walking route, route 221 or "The Dry Stone Route". Here the surface is ordinary gravel road, asphalt, but also loose stones, cobbles, and stone steps up and down. You must be in ordinary good shape and used to doing our walks. It IS different to walk in the mountains of Mallorca than to walk along a straight road in Denmark. If you are unsure whether you can manage it, you are always welcome to call to hear more. Anna is primarily in charge of the walks. She has walked a fair amount on Mallorca, on the camino in northern Spain, in Italy, Sweden, Norway and Denmark. "To walk is to live" is one of her firm mottos.
The cycle trips
Niels has planned 4 cycle routes of different lengths and difficulty levels. They all start and end at the folk high school and are between 55 and 125 km – some of them can be shortened if desired. We pass through green valleys, past charming villages and up to fantastic views in the mountains. We have rented the bikes in advance; they are of good quality and suitable for both mountain riding and the flatter routes – and if you prefer an e-bike, that is also an option. You can see the full cycling programme by clicking the button below or in the menu at the top left. If you are in doubt whether the cycle trips are for you, you are very welcome to call Niels to hear more (telephone 27 75 50 26).
Cycling programme
You rent the bike for the whole period, but you are free to choose from day to day whether you want to cycle, go walking or take part in the cookery school. That is entirely up to you.
Payments
On booking, we ask for a deposit of kr. 3000. The balance must be paid 2 months before departure.

We climb quite a bit at the start and there are a couple of steep passages where we have to clamber over some large rocks. But it is worth the effort. Because once we have reached the heights (we climb about 400 metres in total), we get the most fantastic view over the sea and we can see the almost 3-kilometre-long island of Sa Dragonera lying close to Mallorca's coast. We climb a little more and reach the ruins of a former monastery, La Trapa. Here we stop and eat our packed lunches. Ulla Guasp Clausen
Our passionate house cook and Mallorca guide Ulla Guasp Clausen will guide and inspire with good local recipes, delicious food, culture and traditions.
Ulla has a long and insightful relationship with Mallorca. She has homes in both Palma and Denmark. Her past as a self-employed person in the restaurant industry and as a creative concept developer is unmistakable. Ulla's motto is: I walk slowly, because my life goes too fast.
Anna Katrin Nørgaard
Anna is the founder of Annas Højskole and principal there. She has been course leader on a host of courses, and the vast majority of courses she takes part in have walking on the programme. Anna is, you see, wild about walking long distances – or hiking, as it is so fashionably called. She has walked since, at the age of 11, she went on a walking holiday in the Alps with her family, and has since walked in Greenland, Spain, the USA, Portugal, Scotland, England, Denmark, Norway and Sweden and Iceland
Walking on Mallorca is one of the best things Anna knows, for here she can combine her love of the Spanish island with moving through the magnificent nature of the Tramuntana mountains.
It is also Anna who is in charge of the folk high school singing and several talks.
Anna's motto is: To walk is to live
Niels Christensen
Niels' great passion is cycling, and he loves to cycle – both for the exercise and absolutely also for the enjoyment.
He has been to beautiful Mallorca more than 20 times, both with the cycling club and with his wife Mie – including with Annas Højskole. Niels knows all about recreational cycling on Mallorca and guarantees that the cycle trips are at a level where everyone can take part. He will do his best to make the cycle trips a really good experience for everyone.

What our guests say
