Yoga, nature and culture on Læsø
Step out of everyday life and into a slower pace on this nourishing folk high school stay on Læsø – a place where nature fills the space, the silence is felt, and the sky seems bigger. Here, in the middle of the Kattegat, Annas Højskole invites you to a few days of yoga, mindfulness, nature walks, community and time to simply be.
We stay at the beautiful Østergård Kultur B&B, surrounded by parkland garden, open expanses and the special Læsø calm. The days begin with gentle morning yoga and morning singing and continue with experiences in the island's unique nature – from a mindful walk in the dune plantation to trips in the exceptional landscape of the Rønner. You also get the chance to experience Læsø's special cultural heritage with a visit to the salt works and time for your own indulgence, for example in the atmospheric Læsø Kur.
The yoga is based on classic Hatha yoga and is calm, present and inclusive. Everyone can take part – even if you have never tried yoga before. Each session starts and ends with meditation, and if the weather permits, we practise outdoors in the fresh sea air. The evenings are rounded off with guided meditations, singing and quiet togetherness.
Along the way there is plenty of time for breaks, reflection and enjoyment – perhaps with a book in the garden, a bike ride to the bathing lake or just a moment in the sun. Meals are eaten in the bright orangery overlooking the garden, and the sense of community arises naturally in the informal folk high school atmosphere.
The course is led by yoga and mindfulness instructor Anamet Magven, who has lived on Læsø for a number of years and knows the island's special places and moods. Together we create a few days of presence, movement, nature and calm – a little break that can be felt long afterwards.
Welcome to Læsø.

Beliggenhed & ophold
About the place we stay
Annas Højskole, which offers this course, has invested in a large B&B – Østergård KulturBB, located near Byrum in the middle of Læsø.
Læsø is also known as the pearl of the Kattegat, and is the largest island in the Kattegat – even larger than Samsø. There is plenty of nature here – in fact, nature makes up 70% of the island's total area. And Læsø is the place in Denmark with the most square metres per inhabitant. Læsø Dune Plantation is therefore close to us. You can walk from our place and, 30 minutes later, be at the bathing lake in the middle of the dune plantation. There is a stillness and calm here that is hard to find elsewhere. And there is of course the chance for a dip.
Læsø has an altogether unique nature and history – for example, this is where you find the very special seaweed houses, and this is where the world-famous Læsø salt is boiled. On Læsø there is also a beautiful and unique spa, partly built in a disused church, Læsø Kur. The place is known for its salty waters – with surplus salt from Læsø Salt Works. As a participant on the course, you get about 10% discount on entry if you wish to visit the beautiful Læsø Kur in your own time.
In the middle of the island and close to everything lies the large, beautiful Østergård Kultur Bed & Breakfast, just outside Byrum, which is the setting for Annas Højskole on Læsø. There are 12 wonderful apartments with rooms of various sizes and numbers, a large common room and an absolutely fantastic orangery, overlooking the park-like garden, which forms the most beautiful setting for our meals.
In the garden there is plenty of garden furniture and lovely sunny nooks, for Læsø is in fact the sunniest place in Denmark.
We also have several fire pits, and we light a fire when the mood calls for it. In the evening when the sky is clear, you will experience the wildest starry sky, because there is no light pollution on or near the island. It is quite simply magical on Læsø!

Meet your instructors
Anamet Magven
Anamet is your course leader for the stay. She is also a yoga and mindfulness instructor. She has lived on Læsø for a number of years and has an intimate knowledge of the island's nature, rhythm and
special calm, which she gently incorporates into the course.
Anamet is in charge of classic Hatha yoga with a focus on presence, breathing and body awareness. Her approach is calm, inclusive and down-to-earth, and she emphasises that everyone can take part regardless of experience and physical ability. Meditation and mindfulness are a natural part of her teaching, where safe spaces are created for immersion, stillness and inner attention.
With warmth and a sense of community, Anamet guides you through the days on Læsø – from the gentle movements of the morning to the quiet meditations and nature experiences of the evening.
Kim Juul: Kim is the host at Østergård Kultur Bed & Breakfast, where Annas Højskole on Læsø is based, and he helps create the warm and inspiring setting for the stay. As a newcomer to the island, he has over the years become deeply involved in Læsø's cultural life and is, among other things, the initiator of the cultural festival Læsø Live, which is being held for the fourth time this year.
Kim is also a crime writer and musician, and his stories and songs are closely connected to life on the island, nature and the people who live here. With his open and lively storytelling, he gives a personal insight into Læsø as a place to live and create. During the stay you will meet Kim as storyteller, musician and host – including at our tour and festive closing evening, where he shares music and stories from his life on Læsø.
Praktisk & pris
How to get to the folk high school course on Læsø:
There are several ways you can get to Læsø.
You can either take the car to Frederikshavn, from where the ferry sails to Læsø. The trip takes 90 min – and is on a large ferry at a wonderfully calm pace, where you really wind down and get ready for the relaxed island pace.
You can also take the train/bus to Frederikshavn and then board the ferry. When you are ashore, you take the bus and get off 100 metres from us.
About 3 weeks before the course, you will receive an information email from the instructor. There is also a link to a group on Facebook. In the group, you as a participant have the chance to offer other participants a lift – or you can look for a lift if you need one. Many have made use of this in the past.

What our guests say
