Knitting and yoga in Andalusia
The experiences
Do you love to knit and learn new techniques, and would you like to boost your creativity in good company in southern Spain with other knitting geeks? Are you fond of doing yoga, or would you just like to get started with it? Do you like to explore new places, good food and a different culture in good company? Then come along with knitwear designer Annette Danielsen and yoga instructor Anamet Magven to Andalusia in southern Spain.
If you love to knit, you now have the chance to become even better – and even under the southern sun in September, when the worst of the heat has eased.
We will of course knit “like crazy” on this folk high school knitting trip, but there will also be daily mindful yoga sessions, folk high school singing, talks, cultural experiences, nature experiences and Andalusian food.
You do not need to be a super-knitter to take part, but as a minimum you must be able to cast on, knit and purl, and increase and decrease – and have a great desire to geek out and learn more.
There will also be the opportunity to go on trips out of the house. We will explore our charming mountain town of Gaucin, and we will go on a day trip to the beautiful town of Ronda, which is known for the deep gorge that splits the town in two. We will go up and see the town's castle, there will be the option of shorter walks, we will try our hand at a little flamenco dancing, and much, much more.
The house
We have found the loveliest house in the mountain town of Gaucin, which lies about a 90-minute drive from Malaga. The house forms the setting for our folk high school and shared activities. The house is strongly marked by the short distance to North Africa. There is plenty of Arabic inspiration with many fine details. No two rooms are alike – they are beautiful each in their own way and with a private bathroom. We have both single and double rooms. And there are plenty of living rooms and kitchens for shared enjoyment and use. The house has lovely outdoor areas with a wonderful pool and a large roof terrace where, in clear weather, we can see all the way to the coast of Africa.
We have rented an extra lovely house, which is also furnished with inspiration from North Africa. The houses lie about 100 metres apart. It will be a little cheaper for those of you who do not stay in the main house. All shared activities take place in the main house unless otherwise described in the programme.
The village of Gaucin
Our folk high school is beautifully located in a small, charming mountain village, Gaucin. A number of artists have settled here, and there is a very good reason for that. Because it is simply breathtaking here! And almost no tourism.
So if you are hungry for new experiences and ready to learn something new? – then come along on an adventure with us!

Beliggenhed & ophold
Where we stay
The course takes place in the mountain town of Gaucin in Andalusia, about a 90-minute drive south-west of Malaga – in the direction of Gibraltar.
Gaucín, which lies at an altitude of 626 metres, is a town and municipality located in the mountains of Andalusia in the province of Málaga in southern Spain. It is inland from Marbella, Puerto Banús and Estepona and not far from Ronda. The town has a population of around 2,000 people.
Here we have found the most beautiful house, a former mill, which is made up of 7 dwellings. The house is our main house, and it is here that most of you stay, and it is here that all the shared activities take place. The house is strongly marked by the short distance to North Africa. There is plenty of Arabic inspiration with many beautiful details, with a wonderful pool and a large roof terrace where, in clear weather, we can see all the way to the coast of Africa.
Our extra house lies about 200 metres from the main house. It is also kept in the beautiful North African style.
Meet your instructors
Annette Danielsen
”I have always knitted, but I started designing in earnest in 2006, when my first knitting book was made. Since then it has grown into more than 35 publications and well over 500 knitting designs”, says the knitting-mad Aarhus native Annette Danielsen, who also runs a number of courses and knitting workshops.
“I love to let myself be inspired by things around me – to mull over how “this and that” can be turned into knitting. What techniques will it require, which colours go together … or is it the fit that can express my inspiration.
It is a great pleasure to teach, inspire and unsettle other knitters. I love knitting in a group, experiencing how we can inspire and help each other, experiencing that it doesn't matter so much who we are, but rather that we are knitters. I am known for being a “technician”, so from the participants' side there will be an expectation of knitting techniques of varying difficulty”.
Anamet Magven
Speaks fluent Spanish and has lived in Seville, where she studied flamenco dancing. Anamet is also a trained body-therapeutic yoga teacher and has worked professionally with dance and movement studies for over 20 years. She likes to create a holistic yoga space where everyone can join in, and where it is fundamentally about coming into the body and home to oneself.

What our guests say
